Capcom open their snowy TPS line with an original heat-management system and colossal Akrid to topple. The polar atmosphere stays gorgeous, weapons carry weight, and the 360 finds in Lost Planet a technical flagship for its early big winters.

Cold is conveyed through matter: mist on the helmet, snowdrifts carved by your passage, a blizzard cutting visibility to a few meters, and an orange thermal energy gauge whose glow is the only warm color on screen. The Akrid, giant insects with vivid orange weak points, are drawn to stand out against that permanent white.
The score is written for very long distances: slow brass and spaced-out percussion as you cross the frozen plain, a full orchestral swell as soon as a building-sized Akrid rises from the snow. The contrast between those long empty stretches and the combat fanfares gives the planet a scale the settings alone could not convey.
