A wacky KSS Japanese platformer with strong cartoon flair. Short but inspired, worth a try for Konami offbeat vibe.

An action-adventure of dark hues, demonic monsters and gothic settings: the game cultivates a horror atmosphere of rare intensity on the console. The density of the sprites and the unsettling light overflow with cachet. This visual direction, dark and polished, stands as a cult curiosity of the Japanese 16-bit.

A 1995 KSS Super Famicom action-adventure, Japan-exclusive, blending a dark platformer with demonic transformations inspired by Altered Beast. The cart is culturally important as an accomplished KSS production, halfway between Western platformer and Japanese bestiary. Intact boxed CIB with cardboard sleeve and illustrated manual has become a target for niche SFC collectors, and the cote climbs hard, sustained by physical scarcity and by the title's cult aura.

Is Majuu Ou still worth playing in 2026?

Never released outside Japan, Majuu Ou is a KSS platformer with a darker tone than the SFC average, namely a hero who bargains with demons to recover his family. The avatar transformations granted by captured demons enrich the handling, and the art direction blends gothic and Japanese cartoon with real personality. The cartridge has become rare. A fan translation exists. Recommended to fans of atypical platformers and to those curious about adult Japanese productions overlooked in the West.
