Makai Senki Disgaea 3 Raspberyl-hen is the standalone expansion of Disgaea 3 with Raspberyl as protagonist. New absurd tactical missions, still delicious NIS humour. Generous homage for fans of the original.

This expansion hands the lead role to Raspberyl, a gyaru-styled demon, and her little crew. The art direction spins out an aesthetic of loud delinquent girls, coloured streaks, rebel uniforms and cheeky poses, lighter and more tart than the main story. The spin-off cultivates a high-school comedy tone, where the trio of troublemakers holds the whole screen.
To match this more playful side-story, the music lightens and turns pop. Bouncy rhythms, tart melodies and cheerful refrains accompany the delinquent trio's antics, far from the bombast of major confrontations. The score takes on a recess energy, cut for a spin-off that prefers mischief to epic, from start to finish.
A model student at a demonic academy, a rebel prince wants to overthrow his father in the name of a deliciously twisted logic. Beneath the lunacy and the parody of heroism hides a genuine point about merit and filial love. This outsized comedy, funny and surprisingly tender, true to the series, hits home.
