Collector interest

Original Japanese edition of the first Mario & Luigi, released in November 2003 under the Mario & Luigi RPG title, which establishes the sub franchise's local mark before the Western Superstar Saga releases. Nintendo rigid case with intact obi, more colourful cover than the PAL version. Japan run was sized normally, complete with obi remains sought after by AlphaDream collectors isolating the original edition from the unified Japanese Mario & Luigi RPG branch.

Is Mario & Luigi RPG still worth playing in 2026?

Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga marks AlphaDream's arrival on the GBA and delivers one of the finest portable RPGs ever crafted, blending turn based combat with active timing, dual control of both brothers and writing full of dry humor. The journey through the Beanbean Kingdom is carried by sharp staging, battles where well timed button presses reward animation reading, and a Yoko Shimomura score. Excellent for fans of accessible yet dense RPGs, and a GBA classic that remains immediate to pick up and replay.
