Last Bible, a Megami Tensei spin-off on Game Boy. Classic Atlus demon summoning and fusion, dark fantasy rather than SMT's post-apocalypse. Solid turn-based combat, writing mature for Game Boy. Japanese only, but one of Atlus' best portable JRPGs, worth a serious look.

An underrated gem

A little-known branch of the Megami Tensei galaxy, this Atlus RPG trades the megalopolis for a dark fantasy where you recruit and fuse creatures and demons. Never officially translated, it stayed the preserve of Japanese readers. A touch rough in places, it offers a deep combat system that will speak to fans of methodical turn-based RPGs.

Is Megami Tensei Gaiden - Last Bible still worth playing in 2026?

A dark fantasy RPG from Atlus, Last Bible carries the house spirit onto the Game Boy with creature summoning, demon fusion to create new ones and turn-based battles in a world at war. Collecting and fusing give real management depth, rare on the handheld of the day. The monochrome presentation and the grind show their age. An estimable pick for fans of the Megami Tensei vein and of pocket RPGs darker than the norm.
