Description
Drilling puzzle game developed by Namco and published in Japan in August 2001. Susumu Hori drills vertically through layers of colored blocks, destroying them when they match those above, while managing an air gauge that depletes as he descends. Several modes including Mission and Time Attack, increasing difficulty levels, score bonuses for chaining destructions and characters to unlock. Sequel to the original Mr. Driller with new mechanics.

Collector interest

European PAL edition of Mr. Driller 2, distributed by Namco with no North American retail cartridge counterpart, which makes it for the collector market a fairly quiet regional variant in the GBA Driller catalogue. Namco Europe run was short, the European cardboard box is fragile, and a PAL identified complete copy with intact manual remains a precise piece for non US Mr. Driller completists attentive to the title's limited circulation.

Is Mr. Driller 2 still worth playing in 2026?

Mr. Driller 2 remains one of the most addictive arcade puzzles ever ported to the GBA. The downward drilling concept, oxygen management and same color block chains keep an immediate simplicity paired with a strategic depth that emerges on the deepest layers. The Mission Driller modes deliver short puzzles to solve that extend the experience cleverly. The Namco pixel art is bright and clear. A perfect cartridge for short sessions, and a fine reminder of what the arcade could condense.
