The visual novelty runs through the player's own camera: a phone scans your face, meshes it and drops it onto an athlete's body, with the flaws of the exercise, uneven lighting and rough textures, becoming an involuntary signature of this edition. Around that, the pregame rituals, handshakes and personal gestures, are modeled player by player.
Pharrell Williams assembles a selection that bets on groove rather than stadium percussion: contemporary soul, funk, disco and a few tracks recorded for the occasion, with a cleaner, less compressed mix than usual. Voice recognition, which lets you dictate your avatar's name to hear it commented on, adds a layer of your own name to the setup.
