Xbox port of the excellent Wolfenstein PC FPS, return of the nazi-zombie classic. Solid FPS gameplay, well-rendered supernatural WWII atmosphere. Less impressive than on PC but accessible. An honorable FPS for the Xbox library.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein Tides of War, the console version of the FPS that blends war action and occult Nazi menace, a careful adaptation of a PC shooting pillar. Still common, its desirability rests on this status as a port of a genre classic and the nostalgia of the Wolfenstein saga rather than scarcity. A supporting piece for FPS fans of the console, accessible boxed and of mainly nostalgic reach.

Better with friends

A first-person shooter set in World War II, whose team modes pit sides with asymmetric objectives, several over system link. The competition blends snappy action and coordination: securing a point, escorting a carrier or sabotaging a target rewards teamwork as much as aim. The original online is gone, but local-network play keeps all its strategic tension.

Is Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Tides of War still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2003, this Xbox port of the 2001 and 2002 PC Wolfenstein keeps Gray Matter and id Software's signature inside a universe blending World War Two and Nazi occultism. The weapon feel, the variety of enemies and the staging of scripted sequences still hold up today. The modelling and AI feel firmly dated and the Xbox Live multiplayer no longer works. Recommended today for fans of authorial first person shooters, for id Software history enthusiasts curious about one of the strongest console shooters of the early 2000s and for collectors hunting Wolfenstein releases.
