Rolan's Curse sequel, slightly more accomplished. Richer dungeons, new enemies, slightly sharper combat. Still minor in the portable action-RPG branch. For American Sammy completionists only; otherwise the true great GB action-RPGs (Gargoyle's Quest, Final Fantasy Adventure) are clearly superior.

The 1992 US sequel climbs far higher than the original: a four-figure complete value and a notably shorter Seika run late in the commercial cycle. Scarcity, not gameplay, drives it here, since the game stays minor within the handheld action-RPG niche. A completist piece for an American Sammy shelf, priced by availability rather than by any cult standing.

Is Rolan's Curse II still worth playing in 2026?

Rolan's Curse II is a top-down action-RPG in which a new hero explores dungeons to repel the resurgence of evil in Rolan's world. The progression, the expanded character abilities and an improved magic system bring a little more substance than the first installment. The whole stays classic nonetheless, with a modest presentation and an at-times sluggish pace. For fans of old-school retro action-RPGs and unpretentious little dungeons, it is an honest but skippable diversion.
