Collector interest

An adaptation of the FASA cyberpunk universe on Mega CD, this Japanese Shadowrun bears no relation to the SNES or Mega Drive versions and stays entirely Japan-exclusive, never localized. Its ambitious storytelling and heavily text-driven interface make it largely impenetrable to non-Japanese speakers, which has only amplified its standing as an obscure grail among Mega CD collectors. With an already steep loose price, it ranks among the rarest and most expensive RPGs in the format's library.

Is Shadowrun still worth playing in 2026?

A cyberpunk RPG adapted from the Shadowrun universe, this Mega-CD version follows Jake Armitage in a Seattle where magic and high tech mix, in top-down view with dialogue, investigation and combat. The mood, the writing and the blend of fantasy and cyberpunk keep a real singularity, distinct from the SNES version. The presentation stays plain and the Japanese language barrier limits access. A niche gem for fans of strong-world RPG and lovers of retro cyberpunk.
