Silent Hill 4 The Room breaks the formula by trapping the hero in a cursed apartment. More experimental horror, first-person puzzles and oppressive mood. Bold and uneven.

Description
A Konami and Team Silent survival horror released in 2004, the fourth main Silent Hill franchise entry. Henry Townshend is trapped in his South Ashfield Heights apartment, the door locked by mystical chains. He discovers that a hole in his wall lets him access nightmarish worlds. A formula reinvention, more oppressive than previous entries.

Story
"Captivating"
A prison-apartment, breaches toward nightmarish worlds and confined light: the game locks the player in a singular domestic dread. The oppressive texture of the settings and the strangeness of the transitions weave a tenacious unease. This visual direction, claustrophobic and morbid, renews the series' horror.

Collector interest

The fourth canonical Silent Hill, built by Team Silent around the haunted apartment of protagonist Henry Townshend, a structure unlike anything else in the series. Issued by Konami with a bilingual English and Japanese track on the US release, it marks the original studio's last major contribution. Demand rests on that end-of-an-era status and a divisive yet authentically cult survival-horror, rather than on a small print run.

Is Silent Hill 4 - The Room still worth playing in 2026?

A survival horror from Konami, Silent Hill 4 The Room locks the player in a cursed apartment, in first person view, from which you dive through surreal holes towards nightmarish worlds explored in third person. The oppressive atmosphere, the chilling sound design and the concept of a refuge that grows corrupted make it a singular, striking horror experience. The limited inventory system and the backtracking divide. An excellent game for fans of psychological horror, unhealthy atmosphere and the Silent Hill series on PS2.
