A port of a landmark Western RPG that loses none of its narrative depth. The morality system and that central plot twist still land hard. A few bugs linger on Switch, but the writing and freedom of choice continue to command respect.

Taking on John Williams's legacy was risky: Jeremy Soule chose evocation over imitation, weaving orchestral themes that smell of a galaxy far away without ever plagiarizing the films. His spatial atmospheres, by turns mysterious and heroic, lend real emotional weight to the player's moral choices. It's music that helped cement this universe as a classic.

Memorable bosses

BioWare's cult RPG builds its showdowns on pausable real-time tactics: against Malak, a Sith lord or a war droid, you juggle Force powers, lightsabers and healing through active pause. The thrill lies in choices, alignment and rising drama rather than raw reflexes. Every duel feels like a turning point.

A questionable morality

Saving the galaxy while racking up Dark Side points: that's a fairly comic moral ledger. At every dialogue the game offers noble or vile, and you catch yourself picking the cruel line just to see, or to unlock a power. Donning the virtuous hero's robe while methodically cultivating your dark half is a split the saga embraces with evident relish.

Is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic still worth playing in 2026?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remains one of the greatest Western RPGs, and the Switch port finally makes it portable. Its writing, companions and famous twist still leave a lasting mark, and the light-versus-dark morality system keeps its weight. The turn-based combat disguised as real time, however, has aged poorly, and the port shipped with progression bugs since patched. It is a classic to approach for its story and atmosphere rather than its comfort, but on that ground it stays unrivaled.
