huke's characters are recognisable by their elongated silhouettes and a washed-out, almost overexposed colour treatment that gives the scenes a late-summer light. The backgrounds reproduce Akihabara with documentary precision, real building fronts and cluttered side streets, a deliberate contrast with the implausibility of what happens there.
Takeshi Abo writes a restrained electronic score, sustained pads and spaced piano figures, leaving long passages without music so that the hum of neon and the clatter of keys hold the space alone. The themes return transposed as the timelines diverge, and that variation on a single material becomes a narrative clue.
A group of amateur inventors stumbles on a way to send messages into the past, before their game turns into a nightmare. A time-travel thriller of rare rigour, the tale binds paradoxes, sacrifice and love with poignant intensity. A peak of video-game science fiction, it moves as much as it fascinates.
