Japan exclusive edition of Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2, distributed by Banpresto in February 2005, second entry in the Original Generation sub franchise that only features Banpresto's own characters and mechs, with no outside licenses. That quirk allowed for an Atlus USA localization, unlike licensed Super Robot Taisen entries, but the Japanese version remains the reference piece for Banpresto completists wanting the original edition with obi.

An underrated gem

Bigger and more generous, this sequel beefs up the roster and story while polishing its slick-animated robot battles. Kept Japanese, it slipped past most Western strategists. The culmination of the portable formula, it'll satisfy mech-tactical devotees ready to import or to wait for a fan translation.

Is Super Robot Taisen - Original Generation 2 still worth playing in 2026?

Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2 extends the first by stepping away from licensed casts to focus on Banpresto's homegrown mechs. The SRPG gains narrative cohesion, the roster nearly doubles, the skill system expands and the combat animations rank among the most generous on the GBA. The game was only localized in English and stays demanding for newcomers to the series. Recommended to mech tactics fans seeking a wider sequel and to anyone fond of original robot bestiaries.
