Splinter Cell turns chiaroscuro into its language: deep darkness pierced by light sources you shoot out one by one, sharp silhouettes and the phosphorescent green of night vision. Each level is composed like a painting of shadows where Sam Fisher dissolves. Art direction of realism and gloom, a pioneer of modern stealth.
The sound design works like a thermometer of tension: hushed, near-industrial electronic ambiences while Sam moves through shadow, then a burst of nervous percussion at the slightest detection. The music crouches, matching the breath of infiltration and making silence precious. A spare, devilishly immersive espionage accompaniment.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell PAL is the European edition of Ubisoft Montreal's game, the first entry of Ubisoft's modern stealth franchise. Collector value comes from the game's founding position (direct Metal Gear competitor).
Is Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell still worth playing in 2026?
The first entry in the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell saga by Ubisoft Montreal, this title establishes the codes of modern stealth with light and shadow management, high tech equipment and measured action. Sam Fisher becomes instantly iconic. The realistic art direction, the level design quality and the constant tension still work admirably. Visually dated, the title keeps a rare strength of proposition and remains one of the great representatives of contemporary stealth even today on the GameCube console truly here as well still.
