The last entry in particular leaves the dry stone for a living, shifting nature: dripping jungles, sunlit seas, wind-beaten ice. The art direction reaches there the realism peak of the era, each climate imposing its light and its matter over the course of the expedition.
Gathered, these three games let you hear the continuity of a theme. Lara's motif, first exposed on a handful of instruments, gains strings and breadth as the trilogy escalates its stakes, until it blossoms into full ensemble. The collection thus becomes a single growing score, a melodic thread one follows from one entry to the next like the heroine's sonic diary.
The arc gathered here turns around a vanished mother. Begun when the child Lara sees her own fade away, the enigma continues from one game to the next and unties in the last, which plunges the heroine into Norse mythology in search of Avalon.
