Collector interest

A mecha tactical RPG localized by Working Designs, low-key at release and become markedly rarer and pricier over time. Its very limited runs make it a target for fans of Western SRPGs and for the publisher's collectors, attached to its localization care. Its concrete scarcity and belated reputation support a steadily rising value on the market.

An underrated gem

A mecha tactical RPG with multiple branching storylines, it offers several factions and several endings depending on your choices, all within an unexpected medieval-fantasy narrative. Released at the very end of the console's life and in small quantities, it has become rare. Its replayability and polished writing make it a treasure for strategy fans.

Is Vanguard Bandits still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 1998 on PS1 in Japan and in 2000 in the West under Working Designs, Human Entertainment's project offers a tactical mecha RPG with a story of cybernetic knights filled with branching paths. The grid combat blends piloted mecha and energy management, and the scenario grows with multiple possible betrayals. The art direction and the music install a sincere flavour. The 2D modelling and some loading times have aged. Recommended today for authorial tactical RPG devotees, for Working Designs fans and for PS1 collectors fond of sparsely localised narratives on Sony's first home console hardware globally.
