Capcom applies the grammar of its fighting games to the mutants: wide sprites, emphatic poses, powers that fill the screen with bright strokes, claws and beams drawn with as much care as the characters themselves. The levels cross laboratories, jungles and military installations, each with a palette that identifies the place at once.
The soundtrack adopts a taut synthetic rock, with one theme per playable mutant and level pieces that build in intensity towards the final confrontation. Capcom takes particular care with the bass, which carries the whole, and leaves enough room for the power sound effects so every attack keeps its own sonic impact.
