WiiU port of AC3 with extra content and practical GamePad use. The game itself is uneven - slow progression and uncharismatic Connor remain persistent flaws. For franchise fans wanting to explore it on WiiU.

The forest becomes traversable terrain on the same footing as the city, which requires modelling branches thick enough to carry a character and foliage that lets the eye through. The seasons genuinely alternate, snow altering colour, sound and gait, and the colonial towns favour wood and brick where the series used to show stone.
The score borrows from the North American folk repertoire, fiddle, fife, marching drum, rather than from the European strings of previous instalments, and that shift of instrumentation places the period more surely than a date caption. The forest chase themes drop regular percussion for an irregular rhythm that follows footfalls rather than the bar.
The story adopts a rarely chosen viewpoint: that of a man of mixed descent whose people lose their land whichever side wins, which prevents the revolution from appearing as a simple liberation. The historical figures are shown with their contradictions, and the ending refuses a clean victory, the hero observing that what he fought for does not protect his own.
Is Assassin's Creed III still worth playing in 2026?
A pivotal entry in Ubisoft's saga, Assassin's Creed III moves the action to the American War of Independence, with a new hero, the half native Connor, and an engine reworked for forests, hunting and naval battles. The ambition of the historical reconstruction and the birth of sailing leave a mark. The stiff parkour and a sluggish start remain its weaknesses. The Wii U version adds the map on the GamePad. A title for fans of historical adventure and the curious about a turning point in the series.
