Heavily watered-down port of the cult PC game. Pedestrians swapped for zombies in this version, awful framerate, pixelated visuals, trimmed content. The concept still intrigues but the adaptation flunks on almost every front. Skip it, go for the PC version.

Collector interest

A heavily watered-down port of the PC original Carmageddon, published by Titus for North America, with pedestrians swapped for zombies and a disastrous frame rate. The game is largely a failure, but this N64 version was pressed in small numbers and stays sought after as a notorious curiosity and for the controversial Carmageddon license. Even loose carts hold high, a sign of real scarcity rather than a sealed-only effect.

A questionable morality

The race promises fast cars and adrenaline, except the most profitable way to win time is to mow down the pedestrians you cross along the way. You deliberately aim for the passerby for the bonus, turning the road into a hunting ground, and the game salutes each swerve with a smug little slow-motion. A cheerful anarchy you savor while quickly forgetting the collateral damage.
