First Budokai Tenkaichi entry introducing 360-degree 3D arena gameplay. The radically different approach from classic Budokai offers a new way to experience DBZ fights. Less refined than sequels but carrying an bold concept.

Description
The first Tenkaichi, released in 2005 by Spike and Atari/Bandai. A complete formula shift from Budokai: free-roaming 3D arena combat, over-the-shoulder camera and proper aerial dashing and combos. Closer to the anime than ever before, but also markedly harder to learn.

Is Dragon Ball Z - Budokai Tenkaichi still worth playing in 2026?

The first Budokai Tenkaichi from Spike, this fighting game reinvents the Dragon Ball Z formula in free 3D arenas seen from behind, where you fly, charge energy and clash at high speed in destructible settings. The sense of power, the anime faithfulness and the outsized cast appeal immediately. The sometimes confusing camera and a system more messy than technical divide opinion. A spectacular brawler to recommend for Dragon Ball fans and lovers of dynamic arena arcade combat.
