Story
"Captivating"
The gamble is to translate Akira Toriyama's rounded bestiary into a grammar of cubes without making it unrecognisable: the Slime keeps its teardrop silhouette despite visible edges, and the series' clean colours survive the division into blocks. The landscapes of Alefgard, rebuilt stone by stone, gain gradient skies that soften the geometry.

Addictiveness

Gathering, building and rebuilding a world piece by piece blends free crafting with clear quests that always hand you a next objective. Watching a town rise again under your hammer brings a concrete satisfaction that fires up another session. The chapters reset a little abruptly, but the marriage of building and guided adventure keeps a rare momentum.
Difficulty
"Balanced"
Lifespan
"Massive"
Gathering resources, building towns and tools and rebuilding a ruined world sets up a construction-and-adventure loop as gripping as it is open. Completing the quests, refining your creations and exploring each chapter fills long hours. That generosity, marrying sandbox and RPG, offers a lifespan building fans savour.

Is Dragon Quest Builders still worth playing in 2026?

An adventure sandbox from Square Enix, Dragon Quest Builders weds free block building to a real narrative structure in the Dragon Quest world, where the hero rebuilds a ravaged world by gathering, building and fighting. The guided progression, the quests and the licence's charm make it an accessible, warm sandbox, far from the dryness of a pure sandbox. The polished production and the good natured tone appeal lastingly. For a fan of building, light RPGs or the Dragon Quest saga, the title keeps a preserved generosity and creative pleasure.
