Setting off again to explore randomly generated floors, juggling a tricky inventory and aiming for a deeper descent renews the roguelike promise on every attempt. Stockpiling items and know-how makes each new try smarter. The repetition and the penalty of death weigh on you, but this quest for the perfect dungeon keeps a stubborn grip on the patient player.

Alternating between Torneko and his son Polturn, each with distinct abilities, multiplies the approaches and the hours spent: you master two styles, brave brand-new themed dungeons and accept a permadeath that resets everything. Identifying rare gear, growing your shop and chasing the deeper floor milestones stretch the adventure indefinitely, making this third entry one of the richest Mystery Dungeon games in the series.

Is Dragon Quest Characters - Torneko no Daibouken 3 Advance - Fushigi no Dungeon still worth playing in 2026?

A third Torneko roguelike from Chunsoft, this 3 Advance deepens the Mystery Dungeon by having you alternately explore as Torneko and his son Polturn, each with distinct abilities. The fine inventory management, permadeath and the replayability of generated dungeons keep a remarkable demand and tactical depth. The presentation stays modest and the title stayed in Japan. A rich entry for fans of old-school roguelikes ready to face the language barrier and a tough challenge.
