Judgment rewinds to Emergence Day with Baird and his squad. An arcade scoring layer joins the mix, which splits the faithful, but the action stays punchy and the destructible arenas still let off steam like few TPS of their time.

Story
"Captivating"
Ruined brutalist architecture, a grey palette and dramatic light: the game imposes a desolate war universe of striking coherence. The massive design of the characters and the worn patina of the settings compose a virile, desperate aesthetic. This art direction, dark and polished, left a lasting mark on the third-person shooter.

Collector interest

European (PAL) edition of this Gears of War prequel developed by a different studio, generally held as the saga's weakest entry. Printed widely, it stays unremarkable and lightly priced, without scarcity, across a somewhat more fragmented European market. Its collector interest is minor, that of a secondary entry of a major franchise, sought mainly by series completists rather than for underlying value or strong demand.

Better with friends

A cover shooter with a heavy, brawny feel, whose campaign is best savored two-player in co-op, covering each other and pushing wall to wall under fire. Beyond mutual aid, the Horde mode rallies a whole team against enemy waves, while competitive versus rewards weapon and map control. Local split-screen backs up an online whose servers are no longer guaranteed, for a raw, tactical pleasure.

Is Gears of War - Judgment still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2013 on Xbox 360, People Can Fly and Epic Games' Gears of War Judgment is a prequel that shakes up the formula with a star rated mission structure and optional challenges raising the action. The cover combat, still solid and tactile, stays a pleasure, and the nervy pace suits short sessions well. The lighter story lacks the emotional weight and scope of the main trilogy. But the gameplay holds firm. For fans of nervy third person shooting and series devotees wanting to extend the experience, this entry keeps a real interest today.
