The GBC adaptation of Heroes of Might and Magic II is a curious case of a complex PC strategy game squeezed onto Game Boy Color, released in 2002 by 3DO at the console's very end. The technical feat of cramming a fantasy 4X onto a cartridge makes it a porting curiosity more than a great game. Its relatively high price rests on a very limited late print run and a niche of retro portable-strategy fans, not on its rating.
An underrated gem
Richer in factions and spells than its handheld predecessor, this sequel pushes the genre's limits even further on so small a machine, at the cost of some heaviness. Released at the very end of the console's life and only in America, it went almost unnoticed. A technical rarity that fans of patient strategy will enjoy exploring.
