An underrated gem

An abstract tube shooter with a hazy aesthetic and a hypnotic electro soundtrack, it feels more like an interactive artwork than a classic action game. Repetitive and confined to Japan, it left players puzzled. But its audiovisual daring, ahead of its time, will fascinate fans of experimental shooters and singular sensory experiences.

Is iS - Internal Section still worth playing in 2026?

An abstract shooter from Square, iS - Internal Section moves the player inside first person 3D tunnels, rotating around the wall to destroy geometric formations to the rhythm of a hypnotic techno soundtrack. The stripped down visual concept, the synaesthesia between shooting and music and the vector aesthetic make it a singular, trance-like experience. The repetitive, demanding gameplay and the Japan exclusivity limit access. An avant-garde curiosity for fans of abstract shooting and experimental audiovisual work.
