SkyGunner is a charming oddity from Pixelogic. Cartoon dogfights, pulp aesthetic and intuitive controls. Short, strange and deeply endearing for hunters of original experiences.

Pastel-toned cel-shading, fairytale skies and retro-futuristic flying machines: the game unfurls an imaginary halfway between French storybook and aerial adventure. The softness of the colours and the elegance of the design compose a singular enchantment. This luminous beauty, rare and refined, stands as an underrated jewel.

Collector interest

An acrobatic aerial shooter from Sony Japan, first released in Japan with vivid cel-shaded visuals and polished craft that made it a connoisseur's favourite. The NTSC-J version is the more attainable of the two pressings and carries the title's original distribution. Its collecting appeal rests on a reputation as an under-the-radar gem rather than on outright scarcity within the Japanese market.

Is SkyGunner still worth playing in 2026?

An aerial shooter from Pixelarts and Sega, SkyGunner leans on an enchanting cel shaded art direction, halfway between fairy tale and steampunk adventure, where you pilot airships to defend a city against pirates. The scoring system, the multiple targeting and the playful mood create a light, charming shmup, carried by a polished production. The short length and the title's rarity limit its reach. A confidential gem to recommend for fans of stylish shooting and fairy tale worlds.
