The first conversion on this machine stays deliberately bare: two columns, a fixed background, and all the attention on the puyo themselves, coloured drops with round eyes that blink and grimace at the moment of bursting. That economy directly serves the game, since nothing pulls the eye away from the rising stack.
The score rests on few pieces but each is calibrated: a fast main melody caught on first hearing, a tenser variation when the stack nears the top, a dry jingle on every successful chain. Compile is not after variety but efficiency, and the central theme has remained one of the most recognisable tunes in the genre.
