Time Crisis 3 perfects Namco's gun shooter. Four weapons to swap, cinematic staging and more varied missions. Probably the series peak on PS2.

Collector interest

The standard Japanese run of Time Crisis 3 without the gun, the local pressing of Namco's rail shooter in its native language, a little less widespread than the Western editions. It appeals to those already owning a GunCon 2 wanting the Japanese packaging of the software, closest to the original arcade. Its interest lies in this regional authenticity rather than sharp scarcity, a natural complement for those collecting light-gun shooting at its source.

Better with friends

An on-rails shooter with a gleeful cover system, where two players duck and fire back in rhythm under a hail of bullets. The cooperation is a delight: calling out threats, reloading behind cover and taking turns on the hot spots turns stress into galvanizing teamwork. A proper gun helps you make the most of it, but the rapport of two gunslingers ramps up the adrenaline with every wave.

Is Time Crisis 3 still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2003 on PS2, Namco's project refines the arcade light gun formula by adding a weapon switching system, from pistol to shotgun by way of machine gun, which clearly varies the approaches. The virtual pedal system, pacing cover and counterattack, stays at the heart of a nervous and spectacular action. The cooperative mode and the muscular staging extend the cabinet experience at home. GunCon compatible, it comes fully alive with the peripheral. The short length, typical of the genre, remains. An excellent rail shooter, recommended for fans of skill shooting and of two player catharsis.
