X-COM Terror from the Deep is the underwater X-COM UFO Defense sequel on PS1. The alien threat comes from the ocean depths. Same exceptional strategy mechanics as the first but in an oppressive underwater setting. A tactical strategy masterpiece, difficult but essential.

Collector interest

A console port of the X-COM strategy game in its undersea entry, transposing the base management and turn-based tactical combat of the PC reference. Still common in the West, its interest lies in this adaptation of a strategy monument rather than scarcity. An affordable niche piece for fans of demanding tactics wanting the X-COM experience on the console.

Is X-COM - Terror from the Deep still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 1996 on PS1, MicroProse's port adapts turn based tactical strategy to Sony's console. The underwater base management, the technology research and the squads exploring aquatic UFOs install a real procedural tension. The pad handling requires adjustment and the isometric 2D modelling ages with its charm. Recommended today for demanding tactics devotees, for MicroProse fans curious about the console adventure and for PS1 collectors fond of ambitious PC ports of the second half of the nineties on Sony's first home console hardware globally.
