Description
Space shoot-em-up developed by Shin'en Multimedia and published by Majesco in Europe in September 2003. Sequel to Iridion 3D, the Terra fighter battles Iridion armies through stages mixing vertical and horizontal scrolling with pseudo-3D sequences. Upgradeable weapon system with three power levels, titanic bosses, five difficulty settings and the intense action typical of Shin'en. Notable improvement in handling and gameplay over the first episode.
Vertical shoot from Majesco developed by Shin'en for the GBA, released in 2003 in Europe only without a coherent American retail cartridge counterpart, which makes it a piece flagged by Shin'en enthusiasts for the studio's own German technical signature. Majesco Europe run was short, the cardboard box is fragile, and Shin'en's later brand recognition for its feats on Nintendo hardware retrospectively raises the value of a PAL identified complete copy.
Is Iridion II still worth playing in 2026?
Iridion II, signed by Shin'en, is one of the most technically impressive vertical shooters on the GBA. The German studio pushes the system to its limits with very smooth scrolling, detailed sprites and an orchestral soundtrack that would not have looked out of place on the Saturn. The gameplay stays classic but punchy, with short stages and a gradual difficulty curve. For fans of uncompromising vertical shmups or anyone curious about how far the GBA can stretch graphically, this is a cartridge well worth grabbing.
