Konami builds a labyrinthine castle where each room is told apart by its wall texture and palette, the only landmarks in a layout without a map. The two playable characters differ clearly, one armed with a sword, the other throwing projectiles, and the demonic creatures keep highly readable angular silhouettes.
The writing works the chip in dense layers, with constructed themes that turn long without wearying, a necessary condition in a game where one readily wanders for hours. The castle's zones receive distinct motifs, which helps orientation by ear as much as by the texture of the walls.

A sprawling labyrinth blending action and puzzles, this Konami landmark loses the player in interconnected rooms bristling with traps and secrets. Switching between two heroes, managing items and decoding a barely guided progression call for method and perseverance. Dense and demanding, it rewards patient exploration and keeps a cult-classic aura among connoisseurs.

Is Majou Densetsu II - Daimashikyou Galious still worth playing in 2026?
Majou Densetsu II - Daimashikyou Galious, alias Maze of Galious, is a Konami action-adventure in which Popolon and Aphrodite explore a vast non-linear labyrinth to save their child and destroy ten demons. The blend of platforming, metroidvania-before-its-time exploration and item-and-password management makes it a surprisingly rich and deep NES title. The fearsome difficulty calls for perseverance. For fans of exploratory retro action-adventure and MSX classics, it is a demanding and notable gem.
