Third X series entry, with the same solid gameplay as its predecessors. Zero stages add variety. Less innovative than X or X2 but formula remains excellent. A solid action-platformer for series fans.

Rockman X3 is the original Japanese release of Mega Man X3, here in its Saturn edition with Japanese text and voice and the series obi. The 32-bit port added cutscenes and a CD soundtrack absent from the Super Famicom cartridge, and the Saturn received this entry only in Japan. That regional exclusivity and limited print run explain a high loose price, the import market prizing the X-series on Japanese optical media.

Memorable bosses

Faster and more aggressive than the classic series, this entry pits you against eight animal-machine Mavericks, each defeat opening the next one's weakness. Dashing, wall jumps and pilotable ride armors energize snappy duels, punctuated by clashes with the henchmen Bit and Byte. The climb toward Doppler and Sigma crowns a sharp action formula, demanding without being unfair.

Is Rockman X3 still worth playing in 2026?

A third entry in the Mega Man X saga from Capcom, Mega Man X3 deepens the action platform formula with a fleshed out arsenal, armours to unlock and the arrival of Zero as a playable character in dedicated segments. The snappy gameplay, the precision of jumps and shots and the demanding level design stay at the top of the Capcom school. The Saturn port adds a few visual touches. Denser and more strategic than ever, the title rewards mastery. For a fan of retro action platforming or of the X series, the title keeps a preserved playability and intensity.
