Red Faction II largely drops Geo-Mod for a more conventional, snappier FPS. Turbo action, kitsch story and short runtime. Less inventive than the first, but a decent ride.

Description
A Volition and THQ sequel released in 2002 (US, Europe), the second Red Faction entry. Mercenary Alias joins the resistance against the Commonwealth's dictatorship in a fortified city. GeoMod technology retained but more linear levels and amplified cinematic narration. A mixed reception compared to the innovative first entry.

Is Red Faction II still worth playing in 2026?

A first person shooter from Volition, Red Faction II extends the series by betting on snappy firefights in a dystopian future, where you play a genetically modified soldier through a sustained action campaign, exploiting the setting destruction technology dear to the series. The snappiness of the action, the partial destruction of environments and the sustained pace appeal to fans of action FPS. The linear structure and a dated production bound the ambition. For a fan of action FPS or someone curious about destructible settings, the title keeps a preserved snappiness and intensity, in a dated edition.
