From the pen of Yukihide Takekawa, the music accompanies the liberation of souls with melancholy, luminous themes of great gentleness. Each resurrected town is adorned with a hopeful melody that underlines the story's emotion. This sonic elegance, intimate and polished, makes this action RPG a classic dear to connoisseurs.
Sent by a deity into a world wiped out by greed, a hero frees the trapped souls to bring it back to life. Each place saved is reborn before our eyes, turning the tale into a gentle meditation on creation and loss. This quiet poetry and its original structure earn it a tender reputation.
The North American SNES version of Soul Blazer, Quintet/Enix's 1992 action-RPG, the first part of the Quintet spiritual trilogy. On the Western side, North America got Soul Blazer but not Terranigma, making the US entry an orphan piece of an incomplete series. Moderate NTSC print, fragile US cardboard box: collecting value comes from that relative NTSC scarcity and the cult aura of developer Quintet.
Is Soul Blazer still worth playing in 2026?
Soul Blader, known as Soul Blazer in the West, is the founding action RPG of the Quintet trilogy on the SFC. The hero descends to the lower world to free the upper world lamp by lamp, namely a cycle of real time combat and village reconstruction that proves surprisingly satisfying. The staging is concise, the Yasuhiro Kawasaki soundtrack touching. A genuine gem to discover, especially as a companion to Illusion of Gaia. Recommended to lovers of emotionally driven 16 bit action JRPGs.
