A highly creditable port of Westwood's cult RTS. Squeezing Command & Conquer onto N64 with a stick-driven cursor was a stunt in itself, and both full GDI and Nod campaigns are intact. Some cinematics suffer compression, but it stands as top-tier strategy on the platform.

Westwood Studios and Looking Glass port from November 1999, one of the very rare major console RTS attempts on the N64. The US cartridge carries the full FMV cinematics of the PC original compressed through a proprietary technique, an unusual feat for the format. The US run keeps an illustrated strategy manual detailing the orders of battle for both factions, a document sought after by 1990s real-time-strategy collectors.

Is Command & Conquer still worth playing in 2026?

The N64 port of Command & Conquer is a quiet tour de force. Fitting Westwood's cult RTS onto a cartridge with a virtual mouse mapped to the analogue stick demanded real adaptation work. Both the GDI and Nod campaigns are intact, the cinematics compressed but present, and map readability stays acceptable on TV. Today it is mostly a major historical curiosity for the system and a testament to the effort late-90s publishers poured into PC-to-console translations. Genuinely impressive given the constraints involved.
