Deadlocked refocuses the saga on pure action and arena multiplayer. Snappy combat, squads and tactical bullet time. A strange pivot, yet hugely cathartic for players who roll with it.

Story
"Solid"
The art direction stages a murderous reality-TV show. Kidnapped to fight in DreadZone, Ratchet moves under the eye of omnipresent cameras: sponsor logos plastered on the arenas, score overlays superimposed, broadcast banners that turn every massacre into televised spectacle. The imagery trades colorful exploration for the aesthetic of a violent game-show set, where the game screen imitates the television screen.

"From the very first seconds"
This spin-off reorients the formula toward pure action, in gladiator arenas where you unleash a devastating arsenal against hordes of enemies. The frantic pace and the satisfaction of pulverising everything deliver an instant release. The co-op and the multiplayer mode multiply the fun. Spectacular, snappy and packed with humour, a gleeful, furiously fun offshoot.

Collector interest

Deadlocked, the American title of the arena-combat and multiplayer-leaning spin-off, shorter and darker than the main entries. Widely distributed in the United States, it stays common and cheap, with no notable scarcity. Its collector interest comes from its place apart in the franchise, that deliberate turn toward pure action, more than from a price or any difficulty in finding it.

Is Ratchet - Deadlocked still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2005 on PS2 and known in North America as Ratchet - Deadlocked, Insomniac's project refocuses the series on action and arena combat, partly setting aside the platforming. Captured and forced into a warlike reality show, Ratchet chains spectacular trials, backed by combat robots. The nervous gunplay, the escalating arsenal and the two player co-op carry a frantic pace. The repetition of the arenas and the thinner narration divide. An effective and cathartic spin off, recommended for fans of nervous shooting and of cooperative play within the saga.
