Collector interest

The Japanese PS2 version of Tales of Symphonia, an enriched port of a much-loved entry first released on GameCube, kept exclusive to Japan on this console. It appeals to those wanting to play this generation-defining RPG on PS2, in its Japanese packaging, where the West only knew the GameCube version. Its interest lies in this regional platform exclusivity and the entry's aura rather than extreme scarcity.

Is Tales of Symphonia still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2004 on PS2 in Japan, Namco's project remains one of the most beloved of the Tales saga, carried by a generous story about two linked worlds and a strong theme of discrimination and sacrifice. The real time Linear Motion Battle system, mixing side scrolling action and strategy, offers an exhilarating nervousness still convincing today. The cel shaded art direction, the endearing characters and the long adventure forge a memorable experience. The PS2 port, later than the GameCube version, shows a few technical compromises. A peak of the action Japanese RPG, recommended for any fan of the genre.
